Not so long ago it was best to send art in what was called a “camera ready” format but  graphic arts cameras have pretty much gone the way of the slide rule in recent years. While we certainly accept art in any form and convert it for you to a usable form, you can often save time and money if you can provide it already in a digital format (i.e. a computer file). You can often even e-mail it to us.

For line art, you will get the best result if the file is a vector-based format. That means it is created in an illustration program like “Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Free Hand or Corel Draw”, and the file can be properly color-separated and printed at the proper resolution. If you have a multi-color logo or line art which is created as a bitmap file format, it must be converted to layers representing individual spot colors (e.g. red, green and purple). It can only be separated for printing using “process colors” (CMYK) which may result in the inability to match certain colors so we would need to convert the file at additional cost.

For photographic or full color art, the following are the preferred file formats: “.ai, .psd, .tif, .eps.“. These are formats generated from programs like “Adobe Photoshop”, “PC Paintbrush”, “Paintshop Pro” and others. Art copied from websites are typically compressed to reduce file size and are of low resolution. They are not recommended except for general reference. This includes the following formats: “.jpg, ,pcx, .pic, .bmp”. The resolution of the file should be at least 300 dpi at the final size of the art. If this creates very large files which are too large to e-mail they must be sent to us on disk. RGB files are preferred. Please note that if you are sending artwork via disk or CD and you are using a Macintosh, we prefer to receive the files on a PC formatted disk or CD.

Collateral files: One of the greatest challenges to a smooth transmission is missing files. Please be certain all fonts and collateral files are included. If a font is not supplied it should be converted to paths.

Art created in a word processing programs like “Microsoft Word”, and “Corel Wordperfect” or in presentation software like “Microsoft Powerpoint” often require additional cost to adapt or re-create.

Business cards and printed matter may often be used but there will be a loss of quality as a result of scanning, or enlargement. If they require significant retouching or studio time additional art charges may apply.

Faxes, Photocopies, or Printed Garments are only usable as a rough guide or reference. They will need to be refined, finished sent back to you for approval.

Please call us if you have any questions about file formats and whether they can be used.

Standard layouts for transfers: Screen Print, 18" x 24" & 24 x 32, Lithography 11" x 17".
